A lot of portrait photographers get stuck with ideas they should use on their clients. Everyone is different, but the method to take portraits of those people rarely differ. As a professional Dundee photographer, you have to be able to take the best portraits of your clients and finally, allow them to choose which one they will want to keep.
There are several ways you can do to capture different images with just small changes in how you capture or how the client pose.
Bokeh is best used when the background is cluttered or wide. This gives the picture a really dreamy feel and at the same time, increases focus on the subject that you captured. Make sure that when you do this, you focus on the eyes of the clients because that’s where people will look at.
Adjust the lighting to make sure that your subject is well-lit and no shadow is cast on their face. Use reflectors to prevent this from happening.
You can opt to take a more wide-angle picture by giving more portions to the background. Have the client lean their back on a wall or stand in a big field. Capture the picture by putting the client on one side of the picture and let the rest filled with the background. There are many ways to do this such as letting the client to be engaged in an activity or just stand there and smile.
Close-up, you can capture your subject’s beautiful jawline or neckline from a diagonal angle. Within such a close range, it’s pretty possible for ugly shadows to be captured, so make sure to use reflectors to prevent this. The color of reflectors you choose is important. You can learn from a professional Dundee photographer who owns Dundee Photography Studio.
Make sure to really focus on the subject’s eyes, not their chin, mouth or nose. People want to focus on other people’s eyes, not their nose or other parts of the face. Eyes mesmerize and attract attention much better than other facial features.
Instead of focusing on their face, you can choose to focus on something else. Turn the subject into a bokeh behind the small objects that you find interesting. This is an interesting way to take portraits that raises the imagination of the viewers. They are not clear of the expression of the person captured, but in each viewer, they craft an assumption of what he/she is thinking, doing, looking or feeling.
Get to know them
The better you know your clients, the easier it is to let them feel comfortable with you. Their expressions will appear more natural and you don’t have to direct them as hard. They’ll even be able to use their own style to have their pictures were taken, which is usually better in their eyes. It’ll also give you insight on their best sides and expressions.
It’ll be easier for the clients to tell you the Dundee photographer what they think about the pictures you are taking of them. And you won’t have to end up with horrible ratings because your clients didn’t tell you about it before.
